Evolution

Amphibious creatures
lazing on a lonely beach,
we embrace while time wears away
our bone and muscle. How far
can we evolve in one life?
Should our skin turn into scales
or hard shells emerge from our spines,
would we still know one another?
And would we recognise ourselves
in each other’s eyes? An island
has formed around us. Each night,
we swim in the dark currents.
