Lerys Byrnes

Day of the cello lesson

In place of practice
shoulder twang
injury

Cello strings
taut for the bow
the tentative hand

Air motionless
to hold
the depth of tone

Music stand
stubborn intent
with weight of notes

The phone
must cancel
this day’s hope

Longing
Reverberates
